Weather Cancellations Information

In the event of wintry weather in our area on nights your team is scheduled to play a game, please check Immanuel Bible Church’s website ( http://www.immanuelbible.net/ ) for any cancellation updates.  IBC follows Fairfax County when deciding to cancel evening events and should have an update posted by 2pm on the front page of their website.  Please forward me a contact number where I can reach a representative of your team in the event we have a late cancellation due to weather or some other circumstance.  I’ll do my best to post an update on our IBC basketball site as well.  There will be times when I’ll be out of the area for work and won’t have access to the internet to post cancellations to our basketball site so please keep an eye on IBC’s website for any cancellations.

Schedule Released

Here is the schedule for 2009.

Coaches have been sent an excel spreadsheet copy for easier printing.

Note to Coaches and Newcomers

Returning Coaches/Captains and Newcomers,

It’s time to kick off the IBC Men’s Basketball’s 2009 Season!  Many of you have emailed me expressing your interest in returning for the upcoming season and it looks as though we may have a few new teams this year as well.  Please let me know if your team is interested in returning/joining the league for the 2009 season no later than December 12, 2008.

As many of you may know, Jeff Clark will be stepping down as co-commissioner to spend time with his first child who was born recently. Congrats Jeff!  Jeff will remain on part-time as our Webmaster.  Our website remains the same. http://ibcbasketball.com/

I met with Tom Joyce, IBC’s Pastor of Discipleship and Family Ministries yesterday to work out some of the details for the 2009 season. Below you’ll find some basic details with more to follow.

Games: Tuesday, Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings

Start Date: Tuesday January 6, 2009

Rosters: Please fill out the attached roster form.  This is due no later than January 6, 2009.

Waivers: Please have all of your players review and sign the attached waiver form.  This must be filled out completely by January 6, 2009 as well.  Players won’t be allowed to play without first signing this form.

League Dues: TBD.  I’m still waiting on the cost for the officials, which is our major expense.  Last year’s dues were $500 per team, so I expect we’ll come in close to this amount.

Jerseys: Please compile a list of all your players who will need a jersey.  Include their t-shirt size and number.  I’ll need to place the order by the end of next week so please send me your jersey requests no later than Friday December 12, 2008.  Please include shirt size and number.  The cost for each jersey was $8.75 last year and should be close to that amount depending on how many we order.

Also, we’re looking for scorekeepers for our games as well. Please let me know if you or anyone you know may be interested.  Scorekeepers will be paid $10 per game.

Ministry Aspect of our League: IBC’s Men’s Basketball League offers a great opportunity for men to come together and encourage each other, to stand behind each other, to count on each other, and to develop that kind of bond that only teams can enjoy. There’s healthy competition, but there’s also sportsmanship and a chance to work out your faith in all your actions on and off the court. Each game begins with a prayer and there will be times set aside between games for speakers to share their testimony or to share a quick word or two about how Christ is working in their lives.

New email: To cut down on traffic to my work email, I’ve created a new gmail address. Please send all correspondence to me at ibcmensbasketball@gmail.com.  For any urgent needs, feel free to contact me on my mobile at 703-201-8149.

Thanks and sorry for being so long-winded.  I’m looking forward to the 2009 season!

Scott Hotaling

Early Note On 2009 League

Just an early update on the IBC Basketball League for 2009.

First of all, please direct any and all questions about the league to Scott Hotaling.  (Jeff Clark will not be helping out with the commish duties this year – but will help with the website from time to time.)

Coaches, expect a kickoff meeting sometime in early December and expect the league to run from Jan. to Mar. as usual.  More details will be coming (from Scott) soon.

Thanks Everyone!

In case you missed it, the Warriors won the IBC Basketball championship over Who’s Next on Tuesday.

I thought it was a great season and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.  Special thanks go out to Justin Collins who was there helping out and organizing the scorekeepers all year.

If anyone has any feedback or suggestions for future years, please feel free to respond to me and copy Scott Hotaling with your comments.

Save the URL http://ibcbasketball.com/ because we’ll most likely be using it again for next year’s league (look for updates in December).  I added some photos from the championship game.  Hopefully next year we can take more pictures throughout the year.

Also, it is our highest goal to glorify God in all of this, so please take a moment to once again pray over your teammates (and opponents) and ask the Lord to give you opportunities to love them beyond the basketball court.

God bless.

Sincerely,
Jeff Clark and Scott Hotaling

Scott Hotaling was kind enough to take some photos from Tuesday night’s action.  Here is the set.  You can also find them on the right side of this page.

Warriors Win Championship Game

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s league.  We had a lot of fun, got to play a lot of great basketball, and glorified God in the process.  Praise God!

Congrats to the Warriors who held off the hard charging Who’s Next to win the title game.
