Schedule Changes

Please note that there have been some schedule changes.  The 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM games have been swapped on the following dates.  On the schedule page, the changes are colored in blue and italics.  All teams still play on the same nights.

  • Tuesday, February 14, 2012
  • Tuesday, February 21, 2012
  • Tuesday, March 6, 2012

I apologize for the change. The change was necessary because I had unfairly scheduled Young Bulls for the early game 5 times out of 8 games. Please make sure the new schedule is sent to all your players.

Also, the schedule now has results thru the first week of games and the standings have been updated.

About IBC Basketball

Immanuel Bible Church’s Men’s Basketball League began over 15 years ago. It has expanded over the years to include participants from churches and ministries all over the Northern Virginia area. Teams vary from very good to average, games are competitive and exciting, and ages range from 20′s to 50′s. Many of the teams return year after year making it a community of basketball players who love the game. If you have never given the league a shot I would encourage you to contact us for more details.

In addition, this is more than a basketball league. It is an opportunity for followers of Jesus Christ to share their most important passion of all, their love for the Savior. It is our prayer for this league to be a witness to the love that Jesus Christ has for each one of us. The league offers us an opportunity to share how Christ is working in our lives, and of the love and grace offered by Him. The most important decision you will ever make in your life is whether to accept Jesus into your heart and mind. It is the goal of this league to help you make that decision for Christ, and to help you strengthen your relationship with Jesus. Please come join us at Immanuel for healthy competition, quality friendships, and sound Biblical teaching. I would love to have you join the league this year.

2011 Season Update

Coaches/Captains:  Details will be released soon regarding the 2011 season.

Air Zion wins 2010 Championship with Buzzer Beater!

Air Zion - 2010 IBC Men's Basketball League Champions!

Wow!  For those of you who missed last night’s championship game it was a game for the ages.  IBC had their own version of March Madness that reminded me of the Kansas-Northern Iowa finish last weekend.  Two championship caliber teams in the Warriors and Air Zion battled it out to the very end with a last second shot deciding the 2010 IBC Men’s Basketball League Championship.

The Warriors jumped out to an early lead in the game and were led by their sharp shooter, Matt Christopher, who was knocking down three point shots one after another.  Air Zion made a last minute push before the half and cut the Warriors lead down to 5 points at 44-39.

The Warriors went on another run early in the second half and led by as many as 14 points.  Air Zion re-grouped after a time out and tied the game with 7 minutes remaining by playing pressing defense and strong play from Mike Askew (28 points) and the team’s regular season MVP, Kenny Smith, who finished with 23 points. The last seven minutes saw several lead changes with both teams countering one another.

With Air Zion clinging to a 2 point lead (69-67) with less than a minute remaining, the Warriors Chris Pugh (17 points) drove to the basket and was fouled.  Pugh sank both of his free throws to tie the game.  With the game tied at 69 points, timeout was called with 6 seconds remaining – Air Zion’s ball.  The ball was inbounded to Brian Stanley, who hit the game winner from just inside the arc as time expired.

The final score was 71-69.  The Warriors Matt Christopher led all scorers with 30 points. The Warriors are led by Joe Lozano and Air Zion is led by Eddie O’Donnell.

Thanks to everyone last night for exhibiting such great sportsmanship and respect for one another during a fiercely competitive basketball game. You glorified God with your play and attitudes on and off the court.

In Christ,

Scott Hotaling
